Montvale Residents Invited to a Victorian Christmas at the Historic Hopper-Goetschius House along the Upper Saddle River.

11/25/2020 (Permalink)

We are excited to learn the history of the Hopper-Goetschius House.

In the First Week of December, the 18th-century Home Opens its Doors to Montvale Residents who Want to Experience a Victorian Christmas.

The Hopper-Goetschius House is part of the national register of historic places and was built on the corner of Lake Street in 1739. The museum opens up during the summer and for a week in December so that residents and tourists can experience one of the oldest buildings in New Jersey. The house and grounds entertain visitors by providing fresh popcorn and roasted chestnuts on the faithfully restored beehive oven. At the same time, authentic Christmas decorations are placed inside the house for guests to enjoy with home-made cider and cookies.

Find out more about the Hopper-Goetschius House.

  • The Upper Saddle River Historical Society operates the museum and provides details of upcoming events.
  • Virtual tours are available of both the house interior and the grounds that are tended regularly by the Garden Committee of Montvale.
  • Check regularly for COVID restrictions or temporary closures that may affect open house events in the coming months.

As winter draws in, the chances of damp spots or moisture issues become higher. Contact SERVPRO of East Central Morris County at (973) 887-9100 for expert mold inspections.
